Do you like February? February means a lot to me. Last weekend I had a conversation with my mom about men, love and the way relationships have changed.
Compare what I said with what my mom said:
I said to her:
“I am very romantic but when I go out with a boy, he hardly ever sends me flowers or surprises me. Boys nowadays rarely write letters. Letters are so romantic! Now guys call me on my mobile or text me. I usually meet my boyfriends through mutual friends.”
My mom told me so many nice, sweet and beautiful things about how my dad wooed her:
“I met your dad at a party when I was seventeen. The day after the party he sent me some beautiful flowers. I went out with him that night! He surprised me a lot during our first few months together. In those days things were very different, boys called my house, not my mobile, and they wrote letters, not emails or text messages!”
Vocabulary
Hardly ever – Almost never. “I hardly ever go to the cinema” means I very rarely go to the cinema.
Guys – colloquial word meaning “man”.
Mobile – The short form of “mobile phone”, a small telephone that people can take with them and use outside their homes. In the US they say “cell phone”.
Text – “To text” is an informal way of saying “to send a text message”. “I text my friends every day”. Here it is a verb. “A text” is “a text message”, a message sent from or received by a mobile phone. “I send about 10 texts a day”. Here it is a noun.
Mutual friends – Friends that you and another person have in common.
Wooed – The past of the verb “to woo”. It means to try to make (someone) love you : to try to have a romantic relationship with (someone).
What do you think? Do you think things related to love, men and relationships were different in the past?
As you can see, I´m talking about the present and my mom about the past. How do the verbs change from one paragraph to the other?
Look at the following:
“Was, were, went out, sent,
surprised,called, met, wrote”
Do you know the infinitives of these verbs?

I just watch the video…
I still have tears in my eyes.
I’m married from 1 year and 4 month, but I didn’t have a so romantic marriage proposal.
However, I love very much my husband and he loves me too.
First of marry him, he has been my boyfriend for 12 years.
He lived in Naples, and I lived in Rome, so for many years we used to meet only on weekends and for holidays. Sometimes he wrote me letters, and I was always so happy to read them.
Nowadays, we are still a close couple. We are very lucky!
