Learning English with Stories – “The Whispering Palms”

Hi everyone!

We know how much you love learning English with stories – in fact, it’s the most natural way that kids learn their language from their mother, through storytelling – so we thought today is the perfect day for another one!

Today’s story is about a little family who decides to take care of their environment by using only what they must.

Vocabulary

Balanced (to balance) – the state of having your weight spread equally so that you do not fall.

Basket – a container usually made by weaving together long thin pieces of material.

Net – a device that is used for catching or holding things or for keeping things out of a space and that is made of pieces of string, rope, wire, etc., woven together with spaces in between.

Laundry – clothes, towels, sheets, etc., that need to be washed or that have been washed.

Ashore – on or to the shore of an ocean, sea, lake, or river.

Turtle – a reptile that lives mostly in water and that has a hard shell which covers its body.

Hurry to the rescue – To move with speed to rescue someone. To rescue is to save or help.

Shade – an area of slight darkness that is produced when something blocks the light of the sun.

Uneasy – worried or unhappy about something.

Wind – a natural movement of air outside.

Whispered – to speak very softly or quietly.

Taken care of – to do the things that are needed to help or protect (someone) or to keep (something) in good condition.

Tears – a drop of liquid that comes from your eyes especially when you cry.

Puzzled – to be confused.

Brooms – a brush that has a long handle and that is used for sweeping floors.

Fiber – plant material that cannot be digested but that helps you to digest other food.

Soap – a substance that is used for washing something.

Carve – to make (something, such as a sculpture or design) by cutting off pieces of the material it is made of.
