Spring 2014 is all about peace and harmony for designer Diane von Furstenberg. And her Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week show was like a breath of fresh air with a surprise appearance by supermodel Naomi Campbell.

– What I tried to do is create an oasis of peace and harmony and color and joie de vivre at a moment that the world is so scary and terrifying. And so that women are able to carry their own oases.

Von Furstenberg’s palette combined sunset prints, gold and black and white. The 66-year-old designer has been part of the fashion industry for almost 40 years but says inspiration still comes easily to her.

– It’s like cooking. You know, it’s like, it’s not like while you’re cooking something you save some of the things for tomorrow and the leftovers. It’s like that, it’s ongoing. I’m already working on fall. So it’s not like a book that you stop and then it’s over.

And von Furstenberg’s energy seems to tell the tale of a long future of design.
