Vocabulary Game – Word association!

(that’s “Welcome” in Khmer, the language of Cambodia).

The game we are going to play today is a word association game. It’s very simple!  It’s a common word game involving an exchange of words that are associated together.

So how do you play? Well, we will give you a list of random words, and you must tell us the words that you associate with it.

It is sometimes used by psychologists, since they believe that the words you choose will tell them something about your unconsioucs. This might be true, but it is also a great way to practice your vocabulary: it will make you brainstorm lots of different vocabulary words. The more you play this game, the more interesting and complicated the words you will think of.

So, for example, if we say:

“Dog”

You can write “cat” or “animal”. These are easiest. But then we can think of harder associations, like “walk”, “fur”, wag”, “bone”, “master”, “loyal”, etc. See how it works?
