Reading Comprehension: “The Decision – Chapter 7″

Good morning!

Today is Wednesday and you know what that means: another chapter from “The Decision”.

Chapter 7 -Daydreams

If the driver had been going a little slower, Mike would probably have been more alert and paying more attention to the road, but after a while he let his imagination get the better of him and ended up daydreaming. The type of long day dreaming sessions most people only succumb to in a car they aren’t driving.

On this occasion, he was trying to put together and quantify seemingly unimportant facts of his life. How long had he spent driving in almost 60 years? How many times had he sneezed?

He discovered this mental activity to be so enjoyable that he slowly increased the list until they got to their destination…

Vocabulary

imagesGet the better of – to defeat or trick (someone) by being clever. In this case day dreaming tricked him into not watching the road.

Daydreaming – to think pleasant thoughts about your life or future while you are awake.

Succumb – to stop trying to resist something.

Seemingly – appearing to be true but not being true or certain.
