Reading Comprehension – How to make a breakfast smoothie

What do you have for breakfast?

Today we want to show you a super healthy way to get lots of vitamins into your breakfast. And, of course, we will also be learning a bit of English.

Smoothies are very popular nowadays. Why? They are healthy, quick and easy to make and you can have a different one each day of the week!

Remember that vitamins and minerals are very important when you are studying because they give your brain the fuel it needs to work.

Ingredients

1 cup fresh pineapple, chopped
1/4 cup coconut milk
¼ cup vanilla (or coconut!) flavored yogurt
1 tbsp sweetened flaked coconut
1 banana
1/4 cup ice cubes
2 teaspoons honey, optional

Instructions

1. Blend all ingredients until smooth
2. Serve with additional flaked coconut on top
3. Garnish each serving with a pineapple wedge

Vocabulary

Smoothie – a thick, cold drink that is made of fruit mixed with milk, yogurt, or juice.

Fuel – a material (such as coal, oil, or gas) that is burned to produce heat or power.

Cup – a unit of measurement that is used when you are cooking.

Chopped – to cut (something) into pieces by hitting it with the sharp edge of an ax, knife, etc.

Blend – to mix (things) thoroughly and usually with good results.

Smooth – not having any lumps : mixed together so there are no lumps. A lump is a small piece or mass of something.

Serve – to give (food or drink) to someone at a meal, in a restaurant, etc.

Flaked – a small, thin piece of something.

Garnish – to put something on (food) as a decoration.

Wedge – something that is shaped like a triangle.
