Knock, knock jokes

Do you know “knock knock” jokes? These jokes always have a pun. Do you remember what a pun is? It’s a type of word play that has two or more meanings. By using words that have more than one meaning or words that sounds the same, we create a confusing situation with the intention of being funny.

“Knock knock” jokes always start like this:

“Who’s there?”

“…”

And then each joke is different.

For example:

Who’s there?
Canoe.
Canoe who?
Canoe help me with my homework?

Do you understand the joke? “Canoe” is a type of boat. But it sounds like “can you” so the last sentence is “Can you help me with my homework?

The first “knock knock” jokes are from 1929 and were told by children for fun.
