L’anglais en chanson – I’m not the only one

Sam Smith est un chanteur très jeune anglais (né en 1992) mais avec un parcours assez prononcé. À 18 ans il s’est inspiré de l’histoire de Lady Gaga et a déménagé à Londres pour bien se concentrer sur sa trajectoire musicale. Tout a commencé avec la célèbre bande Disclosure. Ensuite, il a collaboré dans la superbe chanson “La la la” de Naughty Boy et il a été finalement mondialement connu avec les chansons “Money on my Mind” et “Stay with me”.

La chanson que nous vous présentons aujourd’hui est assez connue aussi, « I’m not the only one » et elle a sûrement beaucoup de fans parce que les gens s’y retrouvent, s’identifient avec parce qu’ils ont peut-être vécu une situation pareille.

Et alors, de quoi parle-t-elle ? Elle est chantée d’un point de vue d’une femme à son mari. Elle lui dit qu’elle sait qu’il lui a été infidèle, que ce n’est pas la seule dans sa vie mais qu’elle ne peut pourtant pas vivre sans lui.

Vocabulaire

Vow (promesse – généralement celle qu’on fait quand on se marie) : a serious promise to do something or to behave in a certain way

Let down (décevoir): something that is not as good as it was expected to be

Denying (nier, démentir, refuser d’admettre): to say that something is not true / to refuse to accept or admit (something)

Unobtainable (impossible à obtenir, hors de portée): not possible to get or achieve

Deepest (le plus profond): having a large distance to the bottom from the surface or highest point

Tearing up  (déchirer –sens figuré–): to completely destroy (something) by tearing it into pieces (often used figuratively)

Crazy (fou/folle, dingue): unable to think in a clear or sensible way, very foolish or unreasonable
