So, what IS the definition of beautiful?

What other words can we use to describe something beautiful? The following words are not synonyms, but other words to describe things which are nice to look at, interesting or make us go “wow”.

Alluring – very attractive : having a quality that attracts people.

For example: “That woman has a very alluring smile”

Appealing – having qualities that people like : pleasing or attractive

For example: “I love grey and pink together, they are very alluring colours”

Captivating – attractive and interesting in a way that holds your attention.

For example: “Leonardo DiCaprio’s eyes are captivating! I cannot stop looking at them”

Charming – very pleasing or appealing : full of charm.

For example: “My favourite place to read is that little cafe by the sea, it is so charming”

Cute – having a pleasing and usually youthful appearance.

For example: “My friend’s baby is so cute!”

Dazzling – to greatly impress or surprise (someone) by being very attractive or exciting.

For example: “Lucy’s diamong ring is dazzling, it’s so big and sparkly!”

Delightful – very pleasant : giving or causing delight.

For example: “My mother always throws delightful parties, everyone always has a great time”

Divine – very good.

For example: “This cake is divine! YUM”

Enthralling – to hold the attention of (someone) by being very exciting, interesting, or beautiful.

For example: “I really recommend this book; it’s enthralling, I couldn’t stop reading it!”

Enticing – to attract (someone) especially by offering or showing something that is appealing, interesting, etc.

For example: “Mm, that coffee smells so enticing, may I have one?”

Exquisite – very beautiful or delicate

For example: “Her husband bought her the most exquisite roses, she is very lucky”

Good-looking – attractive.

For example: “Have you seen Josie’s new boyfriend? He’s very good-looking”

Gorgeous – very beautiful or attractive.

For example: “It’s such a gorgeous afternoon, let’s go to the beach!”

Handsome – pleasing to look at, attractive.

For example: “The actor in the new Bollywood movie is very handsome”

Lovely – attractive or beautiful especially in a graceful way.

For example: “That dress you are wearing is lovely”

Magnificent – very beautiful or impressive : very great.

For example: “Last year I saw the Taj Mahal, it was magnificent!”

Marvelous – extremely good or enjoyable.

For example: “I had a marvellous time last night”

Pleasing – good in a way that gives pleasure or enjoyment : attractive or appealing.

For example: “I love the pleasing smell of baking bread”

Pretty – attractive to look at usually in a simple or delicate way.

For example: “Louise has such pretty hair!”

Radiant – having or showing an attractive quality of happiness, love, health, etc.

For example: “My boss is pregnant and looks radiant”

Ravishing – very beautiful.

For example: “I think I look ravishing in this outfit”

Resplendent – very bright and attractive.

For example: “Gordon owns a parrot with resplendent green and yellow feathers”

Shapely – having an attractive shape or form.

For example: “That athelete has shapely legs”

Splendid – very impressive and beautiful.

For example: “Matthew’s house is splendid”

Statuesque – tall and beautiful.

For example: “The ambassador is a statuesque and very elegant woman”

Stunning – very beautiful or pleasing.

For example: “Noemi Campbell is a stunning model”

Sublime – very beautiful or good : causing strong feelings of admiration or wonder.

For example: “This cocktail you made is sublime!”

Superb – extremely good : excellent or brilliant in a very noticeable way.

For example: “Superb! I got 100% on my test”

Wonderful – extremely good.

For example: “Helen got some wonderful news: she has been promoted”
