Velkomnir!
(That’s “Welcome” in Icelandic).
Tongue twisters are a great way to improve pronunciation. By practicing these difficult sentences, we get better and better at conversation and spoken English.
David Gordon, an actor and singer, has several favourite tongue twisters that he practices before going on stage.
Here are David’s two preferred tongue twisters:
The lips, the teeth, the tip of the tongue,
the tip of the tongue, the teeth, the lips.
How many times can you say this before making a mistake?
A box of biscuits
A box of mixed biscuits
And a biscuit mixer
How about this one?
Tongue twisters usually use two different sounds that are hard to pronounce together. By practicing the tongue twister, our tongues and mouths get used to articulating with precision.
This is why actors and singers practice tongue twisters before singing or acting.
