Vocabulary
Folktale – a traditional story.
Banks – the higher ground that is along the edge of a river, stream, etc.
Flute – a musical instrument that is shaped like a thin pipe and that is played by blowing across a hole near one end.
Grabbed – to quickly take and hold (someone or something) with your hand or arms.
Tightly – fitting very close to your body.
Fields – an open area of land without trees or buildings.
Tune – a series of musical notes that produce a pleasing sound when played or sung.
Wide – opened as far as possible.
Wonder – a feeling caused by seeing something that is very surprising, beautiful, amazing, etc.
Delighted – made very happy : full of great pleasure or satisfaction.
Clapped – to hit the palms of your hands together usually more than once ◊People often clap to show approval or pleasure.
Groaned – to make a deep sound because of pain or some strong emotion.
Stiff – difficult to bend or move.
Cautioned – to warn or tell (someone) about a possible danger, problem, etc.
Raced – to move at a very fast speed.
Strain – to be pulled or stretched in a forceful way. In this case, stretching the ears to hear the sound of the flute.

I think this would be suitable for 9-12 year olds depending on their level of English.
Stories are such great ways to get children involved in learning.
