Australian Idioms – Flat out like a lizard drinking

Idiom – Flat out like a lizard drinking.

Meaning – To be really busy.

Alternative – All idioms related to being busy seem to involve animals. We can say “as busy as a beaver” or “as busy as a bee”. And if you’re working very, very hard, you can say you’re “sweating blood”.

  1. I spoke to an Aussie in Queensland who said I had it all wrong and that the phrase “Flat out like a lizard drinking” meant just the opposite and meant just lolling around. Laid back

  2. Well the bananabenders have to be different to every one else – all that sun sends them troppo. Here down south it means you are very busy. Same as busier than a one armed paper hanger(no offence). Wall paperer that is.
