Domestic Animals in English

  • Dog: Depending on the breed, a dog’s nose is up to ten million times better than that of a relatively sensitive human’s.
  • Cat: An interesting fact is that cats have developed meows to communicate with people.
  • Parrot: Parrots don’t make nests; they prefer rocks, walls, or hollows in trees.
  • Rabbit: Females can reproduce every 28 days, confirming their long-standing reputation as a very fertile animal.
  • Hamster: These animals are very intelligent, but unfortunately they have very short lives, lasting on average 2 years.

Farm Animals in English

You don’t have to go to the jungle to find interesting and fun animals. You can go to a farm a few miles from your city to get to know animals that will surprise you.

  • Sheep: Keep in mind that “sheep” is used both for the singular and the plural.
  • Horse: They’re very social animals and they get sad when they’re lonely. The hard part would be having one in your house, especially if you live in the city.
  • Pig: When you go to a restaurant, it’s better to ask for “pork” (the meat from pigs) so they don’t bring you a live animal. Also, if you want to save some money, you can start a piggy bank.
  • Cow: An interesting fact is that the udder of a cow can retain up to 20 liters (35 pints) of milk.
  • Goat: These smart animals are capable of remembering their name and responding when called.

Wild Animals in English

What about the jungle, the forest, the desert, or the North Pole? What’s surprising is that these places are the favorite homes of wild animals, some of which are dangerous—you wouldn’t want to run into them on your way to work!

  • Lion: Curiously, they aren’t the largest felines, since tigers, which can reach up to 380 kilograms (837 pounds), surpass them in size.
  • Rhinoceros: This animal’s horn is made of the same material as your fingernails and hair: keratin. Nowadays, rhinoceroses are in danger of extinction.
  • Snake: Snakes don’t have eyelids, nor ears, so they perceive sounds through vibrations in the ground.
  • Giraffe: Giraffes only sleep between 10 minutes and 2 hours a day.
  • Wolf: They usually stay in packs made up of a male, a female, and their cubs.
  • Hippopotamus: Although they’re pretty heavy (up to 1500 kg or 3300 lbs), they’re faster than humans.

Marine Animals in English

The incredible thing about nature is finding animals that move “like fish in water,” or in this case, marine animals that inhabit the oceans.

  • Seal: Seals find their food through vibrations, which they perceive with their large mustaches.
  • Whale: Whales adopt animals of different species, like abandoned dolphins.
  • Dolphin: Dolphins have to breathe voluntarily, in contrast to humans; we breathe reflexively.
  • Turtle: Don’t be confused by what you’ve seen in cartoons; turtles can’t take off their shells.
  • Shark: Thanks to their great sense of smell, sharks can detect a drop of blood 100 meters (109 yards) away.
  • Jellyfish: Despite how famous sharks are, jellyfish kill more people than sharks each year.
  • Octopus: This animal has three hearts, so it has lots of love to share.
  • Squid: Although it may seem incredible, scientists were first able to capture images of live squid in 2004, in Japan.

Invertebrate Animals in English

The word “invertebrate” primarily refers to those animals that lack a spinal column.

  • Ant: Did you know that termites are in a different family from ants? In other words, termites are direct descendants of cockroaches.
  • Spider: There are lazy spiders that eat insects from other webs that aren’t their own.
  • Bee: The queen bee can lay up to 2,500 eggs in a day. When does she get a break?
  • Butterfly: A butterfly lives between two and four weeks, but monarch butterflies live up to 10 months.
  • Grasshopper: Grasshoppers’ ears are in their abdomen. One might wonder if they can hear when they’re hungry 😜.
  • Fly: Flies have taste buds in their feet. So if one lands on your food, you know it’s tasted it.
  • Beetle: Beetles aren’t new to this planet; they’ve been here for over 270 million years.

Endangered Animals in English

Unfortunately, many species are in danger of extinction for different reasons: climate change, habitat loss, pollution, and others. Here we’ll share a few:

  • Amur rhino
  • Black leopard
  • Chimpanzee
  • Giant panda
  • Sea lion

We hope you’ve enjoyed this article. Remember that the most important thing is that we learn to protect nature by taking small actions to reduce pollution and by caring for the animals we have near us, like our pets.
