Hello people of the world!
Here at ABA English, we have had lots of students say they are shy to practice English because they don’t like their accent. We don’t understand this!
In France they say “Vive la différence”, why? Because different is beautiful. An accent is the pronounciation of a particular individual, location or nation. An accent can identify where you live, your socio-economic status, ethnicity, first language and more. We love accents because they are part of you; they represent where you come from.
Pronunciation is the most difficult part of a non-native language to learn. Most individuals who speak a non-native language fluently speak it with an accent of their native tongue.
We would like to send out a message to everyone about how special accents are.
Embrace your accent with pride. Allow yourself to love yours as well as others’. Being different is beautiful and it adds flavor to your individuality. The different accents we possess are solid proof that no two people are the same.
Let us speak with our heads held high. Let us learn to accept and love our individual accents. You are the best you could ever be; love your accent!
So next time you hear someone’s accent in English, smile and think “Vive la différence!”
