So last week Monday, we had a look at some of Diebenkorn’s rules for creativity (or learning a foreign language) and today we will finish reading rules 6-10.

Richard Diebenkorn’s 10 Rules Part II

6. Somehow don’t be bored but if you must, use it in action. Use its destructive potential.

Use boredom to find more interesting ways to learn.

Imagine you have spent a lot of time studying grammar and writing. And you are bored. Don’t stop! Choose to watch a movie in English; use your boredom in a creative way so you keep learning.

7. Mistakes can’t be erased  but they move you from your present position.

If you fail an exam or if you do not reach the level you expected in time, don’t be sad! It’s ok. We all make mistakes sometimes, but the most important thing is to keep going.

8. Keep thinking about Pollyanna.

Pollyanna is a children’s book about a girl who always looks on the bright side. This is essential in life.

9. Tolerate chaos.

These are Richard Diebenkorn’s rules, so we will not argue. Although here at ABA English, we all think being organized helps to make learning more efficient.

10. Be careful only in a perverse way.

Don’t be too strict with yourself. What do we always say? HAVE. FUN.
