Happy Holidays, everyone!
It’s our favourite time of the year again. Yes, it’s nearly Christmas! Christmas is a time for celebrating, sharing and sending loved ones cards to show that we are thinking of them.
The Christmas card tradition first originated in the UK in 1843 when a man named Sir Henry Cole was trying to find ways to increase business for the Public Post Office. Sir Henry Cole was a civil servant at the Public Post Office and wanted it to be used by ordinary people.
He collaborated with his friend John Horsley, an artist, and the two of them designed the very first Christmas card. They sold these cards for a shilling each and people bought them to send to family and friends. Since then, the tradition has grown and grown and today there are all different kinds of Christmas cards that can be made at home or bought in shops.
Thinking of what to say in a Christmas card or how to word it correctly can be difficult, especially for EFL learners.
Here at ABA we love Christmas just as much as all of you, which is why we are going to give you some helpful tips on how to write the perfect Christmas card in English!
