5 Different ways to say “be reliable”

Has anyone ever told you that “you are reliable” or that “they can rely on you”? This is just the first way to express reliability in English but in actual fact, there is a world of expressions which convey the same idea. Today we are going to look at 5 more expressions which express the same idea so that you can learn them and expand your vocabulary more.

To stand by someone

We can’t really get an expression that is more self-explanatory than this that also means “to be reliable”. As you can imagine, this expression conveys the idea that you support someone in whatever situation they are in and support their choice.

Example:

Hey Jen, you don’t have to come to the appointment

Don’t be silly, I want to!

Thank you so much for standing by me. I really appreciate it

To count on someone

Like the previous expression, this one is relatively easy to work out and also means that someone is reliable. When you count on someone, it is implied that they will do whatever favour that you ask of them and this is generally mutual.

Example:

Hi Dave can you pick me up from the airport?

Yea sure! Not a problem at all!

Thank you so much! I know I can always count on you to help me out.

To be there for someone

As we mentioned at the start all of the expressions are synonyms of “to be reliable” but by now I am sure that it is becoming obvious to you that the expressions are very easy to understand. This one implies a very strong bond or connection between two people and if someone is there for another, it is definitely because they care:

Example:

Thanks for helping me after I fell yesterday.

It’s no problem at all. I’ll always be here for you.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart

To have someone’s back

Out of all of the synonyms of “to be reliable”, this expression is the one which is most associated with friends. The expression implies that if a friend is in trouble, whether that be financially or if they are in an argument that they can rely on you to help them.

Example:

Last year when I was in financial difficulty, thanks for having my back

Hey, man! Don’t worry about it! I always have your back no matter what!

Thanks buddy!

To be someone’s rock

Speaking of synonyms of “to be reliable”, this is the one that would be most associated with couples who are in love and would do absolutely anything for each other.

Examples:

Daniel, thank you so much for being my rock

Jane, you know you are mine too and that I’m always here for you.

Yea, I’m so glad we have each other

Now, it’s time to incorporate them…
