Teachers’ Tips – What’s your all-time favorite song?

Do you remember from last week’s article what I mean by “all-time favorite”?

I cannot say I have one. I have many and one of them is “Lost in Love” by Air Supply, one of my all-time favorite bands…  🙂

Liking one kind of music or another is just a matter of taste like everything else…. But then, why are there things that stand out, that are liked by more people than others?

For me the  things that stand out are those that appeal to my emotions and move me.

That is how you may feel when you listen to this song… not only because it may bring back many nice memories but also because hearing…

I realize the best part of love is the thinnest slice

… may make you realize that it is so true and the miracle of people falling in love still exists regardless of that…

Phew!! Enough romanticism…

Let’s look into the lyrics of the song in more detail…

Vocabulary

in love: “to be in love” is “to love someone in a romantic, and usually sexual, way”, deeply or passionately enamoured

bands: “a band” is “a group of musicians who perform as an ensemble”.  The Beatles were a world-famous band, for example
everything else: all other things

stand out: to be distinctive or conspicuous

appeal to: to “appeal to someone” is to attract or interest someone

move: in this context “to move” means “to cause someone to have strong feelings, such as sadness, sympathy, happiness or admiration; to touch someone”

bring back: to (cause to) return, for example: “Her singing brings back memories of my dad” means that when she sings I think of my dad.

regardless: in spite of everything

1. Read the lyrics

2. Choose a language to be able to understand the lyrics of the song better…

English // Spanish // French // Portuguese // Italian

3. Enjoy the song

I hope you liked it and maybe you can help us out with something we have been wondering a lot since last week…

Is he lost in the atmosphere of love or lost and in love?

Is he trying to get her back?

Well, that’s all for this week!

I´m looking forward  to your comments and replies.

Take care

Victoria

  1. Hi!!!

There is a portuguese version of this song. However, the rhythm and the lyric are different, it’s “forró”.
“You know you can’t fool me
I’ve been loving you too long
    It started so easy
    You want to carry on”

    “Sinto seu perfume
    E a saudade entre nós,
    Lembro seu sorriso
E o som da sua voz”

    Kind Regards

  2. I loved your blog. It’s wonderful. keep it up.
    thank you

  3. It’s a very romantic song,.. . Actually music is one of the most powerful ways of bringing back many nice memories and this song is played by a fantastic band: it’s impossible to resist to being moved because of its fascination.
The answer to the question is: he is lost and in love and he is trying to get her back.
After so many beautiful songs I’m getting suspicious that all ABA Team (especially Victoria) have always been in love, because they find for us students songs and bands that only people in love could choose. Thank you for your choice and….feel good.

    • Of course he’s lost and in love and he’s trying to get her back. Thanks Victoria to share this song with your students.
